#RaiseTheTech: Brigade Media Acqui(hi)res Controlling Interest in Causes.com
Sean Parker to remain Chairman, step down as CEO.
The civic engagement stealth startup started by Napster co-founder and former Facebook President Sean Parker announced it acquired a controlling stake in Philotic, the company that owns online campaigning platform Causes.
TechCrunch reports that Parker will remain Chairman of Brigade Media. Matt Mahan, the CEO of Causes will become Brigades CEO. Cause's VP of Revenue James Windon will become President focusing on monetization and partnerships. Causes will eventually be shut down.
Brigade has announced an intention to launch "a tool to empower people civically, enabling any person to engage with their representatives in a way that is easy, social and enjoyable" in 2015, though details are not known yet.
One thing is clear, though - The space at the intersection of politics, civic engagement, and technology is getting very interesting.
